SUNGHANBIN Begins His Solo Era With “DEAD:ALIVE”

What does SUNGHANBIN sound like when he steps onto the stage alone?

ZEROBASEONE leader SUNGHANBIN has officially begun his solo era with his first EP, DEAD:ALIVE.

The project was released on October 12 at 6 p.m. KST. For fans in the United States, the release arrived earlier on October 11 because of the time difference.

Rather than simply presenting a new collection of songs, the EP introduces a darker and more personal side of SUNGHANBIN as an individual artist.

A New Chapter Outside ZEROBASEONE

SUNGHANBIN first became widely known after finishing second on the survival program Boys Planet. He later debuted as the leader of ZEROBASEONE in 2023.

With DEAD:ALIVE, he becomes the first member of the five-member ZEROBASEONE lineup to release a solo project.

The solo debut allows him to focus more directly on his own voice, performance style and personal artistic direction while continuing his activities connected to the group.

What Is DEAD:ALIVE About?

The title DEAD:ALIVE suggests a transformation between two emotional states. The project explores the idea of facing pain, fear and difficult experiences before emerging with a stronger sense of identity.

According to the album information, the project contains eight tracks. The main song, “UNDEAD,” represents a willingness to confront challenges rather than avoid them.

The concept gives the release a dramatic tone, combining darkness, rebirth and self-transcendence.

A Special Song for Fans

One of the tracks is “Seomgwang,” a Korean word that can be translated as “flash.” The song is dedicated to SUNGHANBIN’s fans, and he participated in writing its lyrics.

That personal involvement gives the EP an additional emotional layer. The project is not only an introduction to his solo identity, but also a message to the fans who supported him through his journey from Boys Planet to ZEROBASEONE.

From Performance Video to Solo Stage

Before the EP’s release, SUNGHANBIN introduced the project through a series of teasers, concept images, a performance video for “Killin’ Me,” a highlight medley and the “UNDEAD” music video teaser.

These previews showed a more intense performance style compared with the brighter group image many fans associate with ZEROBASEONE.

His dance background and precise stage presence are expected to remain important parts of the solo project. However, the darker concept gives him room to show a different emotional range.

Why This Solo Debut Matters

Solo debuts are important moments for K-pop artists because they reveal which parts of an artist’s identity may not always fit inside a group concept.

For SUNGHANBIN, DEAD:ALIVE is an opportunity to show how he can carry an entire project on his own while building on the skills he developed as a group leader and performer.

The release also gives international fans a new way to follow his music beyond ZEROBASEONE’s group activities.
