What if your next trip around Korea came with a discounted train ride, a hotel coupon and extra travel rewards?
South Korea has launched a major fall travel campaign offering transportation discounts, lodging coupons, regional rebates and package deals for travelers visiting destinations outside the Seoul metropolitan area.
The campaign, organized by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the Korea Tourism Organization, runs mainly from October 1 through November 30, 2026, under the slogan “Autumn Deep, Travel Light.”
Can Travelers Really Get Free Train Fares?
One of the most eye-catching benefits is connected to Korail travel products covering 41 partner counties.
Travelers who purchase an eligible product, visit designated attractions and complete the required verification process can receive a coupon reimbursing the full train fare.
This does not mean every train ride in Korea is automatically free. The benefit applies only to participating areas, designated travel products and travelers who complete the required conditions.
The campaign also includes half-price theme trains on five routes. The popular Naeilro Pass for travelers can receive a 20,000 won discount during the promotional period.
80,000 Lodging Coupons Will Be Available
Approximately 80,000 lodging coupons for destinations outside the capital region will be released at 10 a.m. on September 22.
The coupons will be distributed through participating online travel agencies on a first-come, first-served basis. Each person can receive one coupon, and the coupons can be used for eligible stays through November 8.
There will also be 10,000 island lodging coupons. Depending on the reservation amount, travelers can receive either a 50,000 won discount on stays of at least 70,000 won or a 30,000 won discount on lower-priced bookings.
Because the coupons are limited, travelers should check the participating platforms and reservation conditions as soon as they become available.
Flight, Rental Car and Camping Discounts
Travelers booking domestic round-trip flights through Naver can receive Naver Pay points. The benefit is 10,000 won per passenger for mainland routes and 5,000 won per passenger for Jeju routes, with a limit of four passengers per booking.
Rental car discounts are also available in 64 coastal cities and counties outside the greater Seoul area. Eligible rentals receive discounts of 10,000 won for 24-hour rentals and 20,000 won for rentals of 48 hours or longer.
The rental car promotion applies to hybrid, electric and LPG vehicles. Jeju rental discounts are reduced by half under the program.
Campers can also receive a 10,000 won coupon through participating camping platforms, with eligible camping dates running from October 1 through November 30.
Travelers Can Receive Regional Spending Rebates
The campaign also encourages visitors to explore areas experiencing population decline.
Travelers visiting participating regions can receive a rebate worth half of their eligible travel spending, up to 100,000 won per person. Young travelers may qualify for a higher maximum of 140,000 won.
Travelers must submit a travel plan to the participating local government before the trip and provide receipts afterward.
Participating destinations include areas such as Hwacheon, Miryang, Geochang, Andong, Taean and Wando.
Why This Campaign Matters for International Visitors
Many international visitors to Korea spend most of their time in Seoul, Busan or Jeju. This campaign is designed to encourage travelers to explore smaller cities, coastal areas, rural destinations and regional cultural attractions.
For visitors who are already planning an autumn trip, the discounts could make it easier to add a second or third destination to their itinerary.
Instead of spending an entire trip in Seoul, travelers could combine Seoul with a fall foliage destination, a coastal city, a temple stay or a regional food trip.
The timing also coincides with Korea’s autumn travel season, when mountains, traditional villages and national parks become popular with both domestic and international visitors.
What Travelers Should Check Before Booking
Travelers should confirm the latest eligibility rules, reservation platforms, participating destinations, travel dates and coupon availability before making plans.
Some benefits require advance registration, attraction verification or the submission of receipts. Others are limited in quantity and may become unavailable quickly.
The campaign is not a single unlimited travel pass. It is a collection of separate promotions with different conditions.
Still, for visitors planning to travel around Korea between October and November, the program could provide meaningful savings on trains, hotels, flights, rental cars and regional activities.
Would these travel discounts make you add another Korean city to your itinerary?
