K-Food Exports Hit Record $8.25 Billion as Korean Ramen Surges Past $1 Billion

K-food isn't slowing down — and Korean ramen is leading the charge.

South Korea's K-Food+ exports reached a record $8.25 billion through July 2026, as global demand for Korean food continues to expand.

One category stands above the rest: Korean instant noodles have already surpassed $1 billion in exports this year.

🍜 Korean Ramen Breaks $1 Billion in Just Seven Months

Ramyeon has become one of the clearest symbols of K-food's international rise.

According to South Korea's Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs, ramen exports passed the $1 billion mark during the first seven months of 2026.

The milestone follows years of growing international demand for Korean noodles, from spicy varieties to more traditional flavors.

🌎 K-Food+ exports: $8.25 billion

πŸ“ˆ Growth: +4.8% year over year

🍜 Ramen exports: Over $1 billion

πŸ‡¨πŸ‡³ China exports: $940 million

🎯 2026 target: $16 billion

πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡Έ America Is K-Food's Biggest Market

The United States is now the largest individual overseas market in the government's K-Food+ figures.

Exports to the U.S. reached approximately $1.18 billion through July, up 9.8% from the previous year.

And Korea isn't relying only on Asian supermarkets to drive the next stage of growth.

The strategy is increasingly focused on putting Korean food directly into the mainstream stores Americans already visit.

πŸ›’ Costco, Kroger, Target and H-E-B Are Part of the Push

South Korea plans to expand promotions and distribution through major American retail chains.

By the end of the year, the government says 67 products from 25 Korean companies are expected to reach Costco warehouses in the United States.

Plans also call for expanded distribution of Korean ramen and sauces through retailers including Kroger, Target and H-E-B.

That could make K-food increasingly difficult to describe as a niche import category.

πŸ₯’ It's Not Just Ramen

Ramen may be the headline product, but Korea is pushing a much broader food lineup overseas.

Frozen kimbap and tteokbokki are among the prepared foods targeted for further export growth.

Fresh Korean produce is growing too.

Grape exports increased 35% year over year through July, while pear exports rose 55.2% and strawberry exports climbed 15.7%.

🌎 K-Food Is Expanding Beyond the U.S. and China

Growth isn't limited to Korea's two largest markets.

Exports to Gulf Cooperation Council countries increased 33.2%, while Latin America grew 24.4% and Europe increased 18.9%.

The Korean government is also targeting emerging markets such as Vietnam and Saudi Arabia as it looks for the next wave of K-food consumers.

🎯 The Goal: $16 Billion

South Korea has set an ambitious target: $16 billion in K-Food+ exports for 2026.

The second half of the year will be crucial, with Thanksgiving, Black Friday and the holiday shopping season providing opportunities for expanded food promotions overseas.

Korea is also planning international events around Kimchi Day in November.

From Korean Convenience Stores to American Shopping Carts

K-pop and K-dramas helped introduce millions of people to Korean culture. Food is increasingly becoming another part of that global connection.

Ramen, frozen kimbap, kimchi, sauces and Korean snacks that once required a trip to a specialty Asian supermarket are increasingly appearing in mainstream stores.

And if the current growth continues, K-food's next major breakthrough may happen in the everyday grocery aisle.
